Boilerplate

One sentence

A free browser game about surviving Singapore's siao traffic, from the Yishun heartlands to the JB Run across the Causeway.

One paragraph

SG Bumper Cars is a free, Singapore-themed arcade driving-survival game. Every car on the road runs its own bad-driver brain: taxis that brake-check you, buses that pull out without signalling, PMD swarms, and rammers who aim. A Singlish taxi-uncle announcer commentates every near-miss. Read the road, thread the gaps, and survive a 28-level campaign across three chapters, three boss fights and five bonus modes. It plays free in any browser on desktop or mobile with nothing to install, and ships as native iOS and Android apps built from the same game.

The angle most writers take

Almost every level is a real Singapore news story: the record COE that starts the plot, the sixteen otters that stopped Orchard Road, the tank that hit a traffic light, the busiest land border on earth. Between runs the game shows real, sourced road-safety statistics, because the chaos is funny and the real cost is not. There is a full, sourced write-up on the real story page.

Key features

  • 28 hand-tuned levels across three chapters, from Yishun to Johor, with a documented difficulty curve and deliberate breather levels.
  • Traffic that behaves. Five NPC driver brains: cruiser, drifter, braker, speeder, rammer. Reading them on sight is the core skill.
  • Three boss fights, each in three phases: DEXTER the ride-hailing driver, the Karang Guni King, and The Klon.
  • Five bonus modes, including one that is secretly a road-safety lesson and one that debunks a real fuel-saving myth.
  • Over a thousand baked Singlish voice lines, performed in character. Hear them on the cast page.
  • No image files. Every model, texture, icon and share card is drawn in code at runtime.
  • No install. It opens and plays. That is the whole pitch.

Quotable lines

"Wah lau eh, this fella never check blind spot!"

Taxi Uncle, the announcer

DEXTER: "Surge pricing applies to your FUNERAL."

DEXTER, Chapter 1 boss

"Below three-quarter at the border, $500 fine. Above, you wasted cheap petrol. Cannot win one."

Taxi Uncle, Level 22

The parody note

SG Bumper Cars is a work of satire. Place names, landmarks, incidents and cultural references are used affectionately for comic effect and do not imply any affiliation with, sponsorship by, or endorsement from any person, brand, company or government agency. Please keep that clear in coverage. Any resemblance is the joke, not a claim.
